Book Blogger Interview: Riverina Romantics

Where are you from?

I live in regional NSW, Australia with my two children and husband.

Were you a big reader as a child?

Not really. The only books I remember loving as a child were the Tomorrow When the War Began series. I detested reading the necessary books for English studies.

What made you decide to start a book blog?

When my first son was born I started reading. Reading turned into reviewing on Goodreads, which then turned into the blog. I loved the social side of reviewing and chatting to people about books and the next step after Goodreads was my own blog.

What’s your biggest challenge as a book blogger?

Time. I’m also an author so finding time to read, review, write and promote – as well as fitting in work and family is very challenging.

Who are some of your favorite authors and why?

I love snarky sarcasm. So my favourite authors write with a heavy dose of it. They include: J.R. Ward, Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter. I am also in love with Cindy Gerard, Joey Hill and Lorelei James just to name a few.

What’s your biggest book/story related pet peeve?

I hate adverbs. Yes, I know. It is a weird peeve. And I can’t stand cheating from a hero or heroine – EVER.

If you could only read one genre for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I only read romance, so I will always stick to that. But if I have to pick a genre within romance…Eepp…damn, I would probably say contemporary.

5 Days until the release of Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe

I know you’re sick of waiting. I am too. That’s why you should be on the lookout. FFM should hit shelves any day now and then you’ll be able to enjoy a feel good paranormal romance with a super hot Alpha werewolf with gray eyes a woman could get lost in.

5days

Since we’re so close to launch day, would you be a dear and share this with a friend? Via email is great. Facebook is excellent too. It’s always hard to start a new series and getting readers involved really helps. Obviously, you sharing the book announcement with your friends helps spread the word, but it also lets me concentrate on writing. Rather than chew off all my fingernails, I know that you guys are sharing the love and I can get back to work on the next four books.

Psst… did you know you can pin the picture above on Pinterest? Sure enough!

Only 10 days until Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe hits shelves

10days

I can’t believe the big day is so close…and yet so far away. The absolute worst part of being  a writer is having a book ready for readers to enjoy but having to wait for the marketing machine to do its thing. I wish it weren’t the case, but marketing is important. If I didn’t have to spend time on marketing, I could spend more time writing. But anywho.

10 days to go my friends. 10 days. Can you manage it? We’ll manage together. Someone pass the wine!

15 Days until Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe

We’re in official count down mode, wolfpack! 15 more days. Feel good paranormal romance. Who’s excited? Are you excited? Gimme an ARRROOOO!

15days

PS. Tell all your friends about Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe with the handy dandy, super sexy Share links below. Pretty please with pumpkin pie on top.

20 Days Until Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe

Are you counting down? I am. Can’t wait for you to meet Grayson… make sure you pronounce that with a grrrrowl…. Grrrrayson. ‘Cause he’s totally growl worthy. That’s what the betas said. Winking smile

The Big Reveal–Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe

In case you haven’t heard, the first book in my exciting, sexy, feel good paranormal romance series, Mystic Isle, will be released December 4th. It’s called Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe and so far, the feedback is excellent.

To whet your appetite…here’s the cover.

Please, no drooling on our handsome cover model.

Who’s excited? *raises hand*

Ready & Willing Needs Beta Readers

Thanks everyone. I’ve got my Betas and Ready & Willing will be available soon!

I’ve finished Ready & Willing! All together now: YAY! That said, Ready & Willing is in need of beta readers.

What’s a Beta Reader?

A beta reader is a reader who helps an author by giving a book a pre-read, prior to publication. Authors keep these fabulous readers on tap to help them determine the story’s readiness for further revision, edits, and publication. As you can tell, it’s an important job!

Beta readers point out what they like about a story, and more importantly, what doesn’t work for them.

They’ll often point out problems they have with the flow of the book (is it moving too slow, are they skimming certain parts, does something need further explanation?) as well as looking for issues that might jar them (like the character suddenly having the wrong hair or eye color.)

Why are Beta Readers important?

To me, they’re important because they provide vital feedback. My readers are the ones that count at the end of the day and I want them to enjoy my stories. The best way for me to get an idea if the story is any good is to get opinions from a few readers. Sometimes, an author is just too close to a book. After we’ve read it umpteen times and made changes (and lets face it, often times we writers remember all past versions of the story, not just what’s currently written…that’s uber problematic.) we need another take. So beta readers provide a set of fresh eyes.

Do you have what it takes to be a Beta Reader for Ready & Willing?

  1. Are you caught up on all 16 chapters of Ready & Willing?
  2. Do you have an eye for detail?
  3. Are you a picky reader?
  4. Do continuity and timeline issues matter to you?
  5. Are you familiar with all the characters in Ready & Willing?

This is your chance to read the final chapters of Ready & Willing before the rest of the world! It’s also your chance to help make the story shine.

What’s needed from beta readers:

  • time in the next two weeks to read the rest of Ready & Willing (just over 100 pages)
  • ability to read PDFs via your computer
  • desire and ability to make timely comments in regard to storyline, continuity, grammar, punctuation, typos and formatting.

How it works:

Selena will email a chapter at a time, in pdf format, to the beta readers. Upon returning/commenting on the file, beta readers will receive the next chapter.

How to apply:

Knowledge of California, ranch life, horses, paranormal romance, Ready & Willing fans preferred.

Send an email to Selena at selenablake @ gmail.com (no spaces). Put Ready & Willing Beta Reader Application in the subject line of your email. Include why you think you should be selected as a Ready & Willing Beta Reader.

Once the beta readers have been selected, this post will be updated to reflect that.

Note:

There is no monetary compensation for this position.
