Louisiana Bound?

Have you ever been to Louisiana? Which part? Did you get a chance to visit New Orleans? How about the bayous? Obviously there’s a lot more to the state than one city and a large stretch of ruggedly beautiful wilderness.

But if you’ve ever been, I’d like to hear about your trip. Where did you eat? Where did you stay? Did you see the sights? Did you take a swamp tour? And what about the people? Meet any interesting characters?

Leave me a comment below and tell me all about it. And if you live there…tell me about your favorite haunts.

One of my favorite things about southern Louisiana is the history. Even when you’re driving over an old bridge, it’s steeped in history.

Selena, my grandparents live in New Orleans and came there from Cuba because they said it was most like Cuba. Unfortunately, I don’t eat out much when I am there because my grandmother’s cooking is better than any I can get at a restaurant. However, when I do go out to eat I go to Dokie Chase and White’s Scotch house. Dokie Chase has the best creole food outside my grandmother’s kitchen. White’s has the best fried chicken in the world. I usually stay at the Sheraton on Canal St when I go during Mardi Gras.  I have been to Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Monroe. They are all steep in history of France and Spain. I love taking air boat rides on the Bayous; looking at alligators and other swamp critters. Also river boat rides are great. You can either have lunch or dinner on there or just due the tour. During Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and Essence Music Festival they have “Booze Cruises”. Lots of fun! On the Air boat rides you can get to know the drivers and they will invite you to crawfish/crab bowls with LOTS of Cajun fun and music! Orleans Parish and St Charles Parish are the places to go to see Cajuns. Lots of fun to be had by all. Let me know if you want more specifics!
